Planer Snipe Fix Kit for DeWalt DW735
Planer Snipe Fix Kit for DeWalt DW735
Your DW735 does not dip because you fed the board wrong. It dips because the machine flexes when only one roller is holding the work. The Fix Kit caps that flex. After setup, customers measure 1 to 2 thousandths where they used to have a gouge deep enough to sand out or saw off.

- Fits DW735 and DW735X
- 20 to 40 minutes to install. No drilling. Fully reversible.

Customer result: 1-2 thousandths of snipe
"I make close-tolerance wooden interlocking puzzles from premium exotic woods, working to a few thousandths of an inch, so every inch of snipe cost me real money. My DW735X had snipe from day one and I tried every trick for 5 years before giving up and buying a floor-standing planer. With the Fix Kit dialed in, snipe is nearly undetectable, maybe 1-2 thousandths. A night and day difference. Very simple solution to a complex problem. I was ready to sell the DeWalt; instead it's now set up as my dedicated final-dimensioning machine."Mark McCallum, puzzle maker
Customer result: 0.1mm along the whole board
"I bought the kit as insurance since I already used proper technique. After install, infeed snipe was completely gone with just a trace on the outfeed side. One small front-roller adjustment later, I measured 0.1mm variation along the entire board with no technique at all. No board lifting, nothing. Thanks for the research, the excellent technical support, and for making this product available."Walter C., Florida
Description
Mid board, both rollers press down on the work. The load is shared and the machine sits where it sits.
At the start and end of the cut, only one roller is engaged. The same downward force now goes through half the contact points. The head assembly flexes, the cutterhead drops a few thousandths, and it takes a deeper bite. That bite is your snipe.
This is why the standard advice only half works. Support tables, sacrificial boards, lighter passes, and lifting the ends all reduce the load a little. None of them remove the difference between one roller carrying it and two.
What the kit does
The kit adds adjustable stops that limit how far each roller can compress. Cap the compression, and you cap the swing in load between one-roller and two-roller contact. Less swing, less flex, less snipe.
Same principle a floor-standing planer uses, applied to a lunchbox machine.
Fitment
DW735 and DW735X: confirmed fit.
DW734: not currently sold for this machine. The DW734 uses different bracket hole spacing, and while some owners have made this kit work by modifying the mounting holes, we do not recommend it and do not support it. A dedicated DW734 set is on the list.

Install
20 to 40 minutes. No drilling, no permanent modification, fully reversible. A dial indicator makes dialing it in much easier than feeler gauges. Recheck the adjustment after blade changes, the same as any tuned machine.
In the kit
4 set screws with locknuts for infeed and outfeed adjustment
8 steel hex bolts
0.02 FL. OZ. (0.5ml) Loctite 242 to secure the hex bolts
PH2 bit for stock screw removal
2.5mm and 4mm ball end hex bits

Had to elongate the mounting holes on the bracket. I have an older model DW734 and was instructed by PS that this was a repair. I've run off a few pieces and seems to be ok.
Thanks James. Some DW734 units have different hole spacing, which is why the kit is now listed for DW735/DW735X only. Glad the workaround got you running, and the refund offer stands anytime.
Didn't expect much but actually snipe is 95% gone and what is left is only barely detectable and doesn't interfere with the next step of whatever I'm doing. So, a huge improvement. Installation was drastically easier than switching the cutter head out. Packaging was extremely professional and the price can't be complained about. I'm not sure how it could be improved!
Easy to install, easy to calibrate, and excellent results. All parts in the kit are of great quality, and come well packaged. Instructions are easy to follow and detailed. After initial installation (~30min, and I am slow) and test, I had a minute snipe already very acceptable. I wrote to Jan and he answered promptly and practically. Took 5min of extra calibration and had perfect results (0.1mm difference along the board). Highly recommend this upgrade.
I wish I could say more, but I've only used it once since installation. Right before installing the fix kit, I was experiencing consistent snipe on anything I'd send through my planer. After installation, the snipe was gone. I would say that using a dial indicator (digital or analog) is essential for the greatest success in setting the kits up. Feeler Gauges are too fiddly. Great product!!
I fought the snipe issue for five years, from day one of owning my planer. None of the “fixes” from YouTube, woodworking forums, etc did much to improve the situation. This product was a game changer for me. Take your time installing the product, and you will be amazed at the improvement! Now I have almost undetectable snipe or none at all. An elegant solution that saved my 735 from Marketplace or Craigslist. Jan was very helpful too!
